Professor Frederick K.S. LEUNG

Frederick K.S. Leung, BBS, is Chair Professor and Kintoy Professor in Mathematics Education at the University of Hong Kong. He is the Project Leader of PISA 2025 (Hong Kong). Professor Leung's major research interests are in the comparison of mathematics education in different countries, and in the influence of different cultures on teaching and learning. Professor Leung was awarded the Hans Freudenthal Medal for 2013, and named a Changjiang Scholar by the Ministry of Education, China in 2014. He was conferred a Bronze Bauhinia Star (BBS) by the Hong Kong SAR Government in 2017 for his contributions in mathematics education, and was conferred an Honorary membership by the International Association for the Evaluation of Academic Achievement (IEA) in 2019. Professor Leung is currently the President of the International Commission on Mathematical Instruction (ICMI). He has served as the Project Leader / Research Coordinator of the IEA Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) (1991-1998), the IEA Third International Mathematics and Science Study Repeat (TIMSS-R) Video Study, The Hong Kong Component of the Trends in Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS 2003), TIMSS 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019.
