The Target Population for PISA is students between 15 years and 3 (completed) months and 16 years and 2 (completed) months at the beginning of the testing period, attending Secondary 1/Year 7 or higher.
- Field Trial: Students born between 1 March 2008 and 28 February 2009
- Main Study: Students born between 1 March 2009 and 28 February 2010
- Field Trial: 3 June – 14 July 2024
- Main Study: 19 May – 13 July 2025
Students in Hong Kong will complete the cognitive test and questionnaires online, either with a desktop computer or a laptop computer with internet access (wired or Wi-Fi). The assessment cannot be done with smartphones or tablets.
The goal of PISA is to measure the 15-year-olds’ literacy level in the domains of Science, Mathematics and Reading and an innovative domain targeting an interdisciplinary competence. Prior familiarisation with the test materials, or training to the test, is not necessary. Students can complete this PISA assessment as a new and innovative learning experience.
